Catch of the Week: Urbandale Mice
March 17, 2017
The seasons are changing and with the warmer temperatures comes common household pests, such as mice. Recently we received a call from an Urbandale homeowner who was experiencing a mouse issue. She had noticed the pest scurrying around and was unable to see where it went when she went to look for it. Ultimately, our team of technicians was able to locate the pest and determine where it was burrowing within the home. As you can see from the image above, mice are nuisance pests and can get into just about anything, including food.
Mice Appearance
The most common species of mice is the house mouse. They are brown, gray or black in color with light stomachs. Adult house mice can grow up to 7 inches and weigh between .5 to 10 ounces.
Mice Diet & Behavior
A house mouse typically makes its home in grassy and wooded spaces or in farm fields. However, they are also known to make their nests close to an available food source, which is what makes our homes a great option. House mice prefer to feed on nuts and seeds, though they will feed on anything that is available to them.
Mice Infestation
The most common way to detect a mouse infestation is by spotting them. House mice are known to roam throughout the day and nest within undisturbed spaces, such as walls, attics, etc. Another sign of a mouse infestation is their droppings that are the size of a small pellet.
