Catch of the Week: Bird's Nest
June 9, 2017
Recently, our team of pest professionals received a call to a Des Moines home that was experiencing a bird infestation. As you can see from the above photo, these birds decided to nest in the home's dryer vent. This is a common place for birds to nest due to the heat generated by the dryer. Though bird nests around the exterior of your home or business may not seem like a huge problem, they can lead to some serious issues.
Detecting a Bird Infestation
Detecting a bird infestation can be pretty easy; homeowners simply need to take the time to check around their property. A few of the main indicators that you may have a bird infestation include:
- Excessive amounts of bird droppings
- Bird noises in and around your home such as in attics or covered spaces on your porch, etc.
- Damage to the roof or other openings where birds are likely to nest or lay their eggs
- A large number of birds around your home. During certain times of the year, watch for large flocks of birds that choose to hang around the trees on your property.
Why Bird Control is Crucial
If bird infestations are not taken care in a safe and effective manner, they can cause some serious issues. Not only can these nests turn into overpopulation on your property, but bird droppings can spread an abundance of diseases.
