Latest Catch of the Week: Birds
January 8, 2016
This week our technician Tyler was called to a Des Moines home where a woman believed she had mice in her oven. To her surprise, it was actually a small bird. Tyler found the bird within the stove vent. It is not uncommon for birds to lift the flap on the exterior stove vent and find their way inside the stove or microwave.
So, how do you prevent them from getting into your stove? The easiest way is to install a bird vent guard. If you are unsure how to do this or where to begin, Preferred Pest Control can take care of it for you!
Learn a bit more about why, where and how to prevent birds from entering your home or business in the winter!
Where Do Birds Enter my Home in the Winter?
Birds will find their way into your home or business through architectural openings such as gaps in the walls, windows or dryer vents. They tend to nest in areas such as your attic, bathroom, or any other warm areas of your home.
How Do I know if I Have Birds in my Home?
The easiest way to find out if birds have made their way into your Des Moines home or business is if you find bird droppings, feathers or potential nests. If you aren't finding these signs, you may be able to hear them fluttering, or there could be a distinct smell depending on where they choose to nest.
How Do I Keep Birds Out of my Home?
The easiest way to keep birds out of our home or business is by closing all potential gaps or openings throughout your home, especially since they do not need a big opening to get in.
